A 52-year-old woman was killed and her 2-year-old niece was critically injured when they were struck by an SUV driver who jumped a curb in Queens yesterday evening, according to police. Currently, no arrests have been made.

Cops say 52-year-old Meena Mahabir was struck while standing on the sidewalk at 108th Street and Atlantic Avenue in Richmond Hill at around 5:53 p.m. yesterday. A 43-year-old woman behind the wheel of a white S.U.V. was traveling westbound on Atlantic Avenue when she ran a red light at 108th Street. There, she was struck by the 23-year-old driver of a black Kia—that impact forced the S.U.V. onto the sidewalk, where it struck Mahabir and her niece. The toddler's 48-year-old mother was also injured.

All three victims, along with the two drivers, were transported to Jamaica Hospital, where Mahabir was pronounced dead. The toddler is currently in critical but stable condition, while her mother and the two drivers are in stable condition.

Witnesses say Mahabir tried to push the 2-year-old out of the way of the car when the driver struck her. "I seen her when she threw the baby," witness Miriam Sierra told CBS 2. Another witness told the station, "The little girl was crying, she was bruised up. The older woman had tire marks over her stomach and a lot of scratches on her face and legs."

Police have not yet made any arrests, nor issued any summonses or tickets. The investigation, they say, is ongoing.
