The mayor of White Plains, NY held a press conference yesterday to proclaim his innocence after being arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife. Adam Bradley said, "I have to set the record straight... I did not in any way mistreat my wife. There have been problems in my marriage for some time, and I have made many efforts to deal with them." Oh, and he's not resigning.

The Journal News reports that Fumiko Bradley has a temporary restraining order on Bradley: "According to the documents handed out at the news conference, [she] accused the mayor of grabbing her left arm, placing her hand against a door frame and closing a door on it, injuring her middle finger." She also told the Journal News that she didn't blame her husband entirely: "He put himself under a lot of pressure and I couldn't handle that, too. And he's a great father, too."

The couple has two young daughters; Adam Bradley is staying with his parents while Fumiko Bradley is in their home with the kids. WCBS 2 spoke to Bradley's mayoral opponent from last year, Glen Hockley, who says, "If the mayor is the person being accused, there is a conflict there. Obviously you need an independent investigative group to look in to this." WCBS 2 adds, "Police Department officials would not explain why they allowed the Mayor's Office to take the lead in handling the media on the case."
