High pressure sitting over the Outer Banks will give us plenty of sunshine today and tomorrow morning. The southerly wind around that high will also warm the city to the lower 60s this afternoon and pretty close to 70 on Saturday. The humidity will increase as the day progresses on Saturday and clouds will arrive by late-afternoon.
Sunday, the fifth anniversary of superstorm Sandy, is looking like a real mess. A strong cold front, visible via the huge temperature changes on the map above, will arrive just as a tropical disturbance moves up the coast.
As the front plows into the tropical moisture it is likely to produce prodigious amounts of rain. Showers are expected to start late Saturday night and intensify during the day on Sunday. It currently looks like the city could see a couple of inches of rain, with more than double that amount falling to the north and west of the city from northern New Jersey all the way up through the Catskills and beyond.
Sunday will warm to the upper 60s despite the heavy clouds and rain. The cold front looks like it will pass late Sunday night, so Monday will be cooler with a high only in the upper 50s. Tuesday is looking great for Halloween festivities. High pressure moving in behind the storms should give us sunny skies and a high in the upper 50s.
