After another couple days without rain we finally got around to updating the precipitation graph. This year has had a real oddball pattern, starting out dry, then two excessively rainy months, followed by a prolonged dry spell. The latest US Drought Monitor map shows that most of Long Island and parts of southern Connecticut are in a moderate drought, while the city and surrounding mainland counties are abnormally dry. A bit more rain has fallen upstate, so the city's water supply system actually has more water storage than normal for this time of year.

Despite the morning clouds there's only a slight chance of rain today as high pressure continues to sit overhead. Look for a high near 60 under mostly cloudy skies. A warm front tomorrow afternoon will bring us an unseasonably warm Halloween. Tomorrow's high will reach the mid 60s and the temperature should remain in the 60s through the evening.

Where a warm front leads a cold front often follows and that's going to be the case on Friday as a strong low pressure system passes through southern Canada. Friday will see our first chance at a significant rainfall in several weeks. The temperature should warm to the lower 70s on Friday before the front gets here. The skies should clear for the weekend with the high expected to be in the mid 60s on Saturday and mid 50s for the marathon on Sunday.
