Mother Nature will be giving New Yorkers a parting summer gift this year: a picture perfect Labor Day weekend of warm, sunny weather.
Temperatures are expected to rise over the weekend and into Monday, when the highs in the city will reach a toasty 87 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
“We have an area of high pressure building right now across the region, and that's going to be keeping us nice and dry and keeping that sunny weather around for us all the way through Labor Day weekend,” said meteorologist Bryan Ramsey.
Even humidity should be staying relatively low for Saturday and Sunday, but will rise Monday morning as the temperature climbs, Ramsey said.
The only fly in the white wine this weekend could be caused by rip currents at New York’s beaches – the remnants of hurricanes Idalia and Franklin that pummeled southern states earlier this week.
While surf will still be choppy throughout Friday, it should be calming down by Saturday.
“Once we go to tomorrow, it looks like the rip risk will be back down to a moderate,” Ramsey said Friday morning.
Is this Labor Day going to be nicer than the last?
Not by much. The holiday was also sunny and warm in 2022, with a Central Park high of 88 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
And while you may have to retire the whites after this weekend, summer doesn’t appear to be going anywhere soon.
The sunny stretch is expected to last for at least the next seven days, Ramsey said. Temperatures for back-to-school week could hit the low-90s, making for a hot start to the year for New York’s youngest residents.
