Even though New York State officially repealed a decades-old law, 50-A, to finally open up disciplinary records of police officers, firefighters and correction officers to the public, it's still not easy for the general public to determine whether an individual officer or even an entire precinct has a history of misconduct. In fact, unions are fighting against the release of related NYPD records.

That's why THE CITY, Gothamist/WNYC, ProPublica and The Marshall Project — four nonprofit newsrooms — are pooling our collective resources to bring this information to you, the public. And that's where you come in.

Help us hold the NYPD accountable. Have you had an encounter with a certain officer that didn't seem right? Are there certain cops who have a bad reputation in your community? Have you ever filed a complaint—or have you thought about it but never did? Are you in the police department and want to shed light on misconduct?

Please share your stories by filling out the form below. We will keep all names confidential and will not publish identifying information without your permission. We are hoping to build our future reporting through these tips and will contact you if we want to include your experiences (and ask you more information).

We are the only ones reading what you submit. Send questions to [email protected].
