Police have released video of the driver who struck a pedestrian in Astoria, Queens on Wednesday night, then left him for dead. The 45-year-old victim was crossing 21st Street at 30th Road shortly before 11 p.m. when the driver of a silver four-door sedan slammed into him. Police say that the victim, whose name has not been released, was near the intersection when the motorist hit him. The video seems to show the victim crossing three houses north of the intersection. An NYPD spokesman said that he "was knocked to the ground and slid along the pavement."

Paramedics drove the man to Elmhurst Hospital, and doctors there pronounced him dead.

The intersection lacks a crosswalk, and neighbors have said that there is a problem with drivers speeding along 21st Street. In 2015, the intersection was the scene of 10 crashes, one that left a pedestrian injured, and one that left a cyclist injured, according to police data.

Police ask those with information about the hit-and-run to call (800) 577-8477, or for Spanish speakers, (888) 577-4782, or to submit tips at the NYPD Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637, then enter "TIP577".
