Giants fans are turning out to be weirder than we ever could have imagined: some of them shave the Giants logo into their heads, some of them get tattoos of Eli Manning on their asses, and some of them worship garden gnomes. But then there are the fans like the ones in the video below, residents at Cedar Crest Retirement Community who want to show their support for the Giants the way they did back in the 1920s: by lip-syncing to rap songs and wearing backwards Giants caps.
According to CBS, the idea came from the community’s TV coordinator, Larry Curran. “We have people here who saw the Great Depression and Prohibition and just to be able to be a part of this for a life-long Giants fan, to be able to be a part of this, it’s something special,” Curran said. “I personally am a classical music person, but now I can change it to 91 and 3 quarters to a rap star,” resident Ed Thom said.
A slightly younger sexagenarian Giants fan showed up at The Late Show with David Letterman last night: when he wasn't busy hanging out with Korean pop stars, Bill Murray donned a Giants uniform to kick a field goal on 53rd Street as part of a skit with Letterman and Regis Philbin (who played the referee). Watch the segment below, and see outtakes here.
We've spent so much time focused on Giants fans, we're lost track of Big Blue themselves. What are they doing to prepare for the game? What do they want fans to do to support them? And most importantly, who would they want to play them in a biopic?
For Eli Manning, James Van Der Beek seems just about not-good-looking enough to fit the bill. But stop being so hard on yourself Eli! It takes very special facial muscles to contort into so many unique Manningfaces. And you have something else going for you: your name is hypnotic.
