Friends are desperately searching for a 28-year-old mother and EMT at the U.S. Open who has been missing since Thursday. Update: She was found last night at a Long Island hospital; more details below.
Family friend Jose Rivera tells us Maria Marrero, 28, was last heard from on Thursday morning; her mother says she heard her turn off her alarm and get ready for work at their home in Queens. She left at around 7 a.m. for the U.S. Open, where she'd been stationed as an EMT. She did not arrive at work, and her family has since filed a missing persons report with the 107th precinct.
Rivera tells us Marrero has an 11-year-old daughter who "is literally her world," and that she went missing somewhere between Fresh Meadows and Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Friends and family have been distributing flyers with contact information in case anyone sees Marrero or has any information as to her whereabouts:
Fellow EMT Maggie Shnayerson tells us:
Maria is 5' 3", 120 lbs, with dark brown shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. Her DOB is 11/22/1987. She has a daughter named Kayla who is 11 years old. Maria was last seen wearing navy EMT BDU-style pants and black sneakers. She would have taken the Q17 bus to the 7 train's Main Street stop in Flushing on her commute to the Open, but she never arrived. She's been an EMT since she was 18 years old.
Update: Marrero was found at Long Island Jewish Hospital. She was a Jane Doe until a nurse noticed media coverage of her disappearance.
The Daily News reports that Marrero had "called for an ambulance herself after leaving her house... Thursday morning because she was feeling ill, an NYPD spokeswoman said... A police source said that Marrero has been in and out of consciousness at the hospital since Thursday, but did not specify her ailment."
