[UPDATE BELOW] A 36-year-old man was killed last night after he was struck first by a hit-and-run driver, and again by a second driver in the Ridgewood section of Queens.
According to police, Kamil Gorski of San Marcos, California was crossing Metropolitan Avenue at 62nd Street at around 7:55 p.m. last night when he was struck by the driver of white Ford van that was traveling eastbound on Metropolitan Avenue.
Authorities say that driver fled the scene, but Gorski was pushed onto Metropolitan Avenue's westbound lane, where he was struck by the driver of a blue sedan. That driver remained at the scene; Gorski was transported to Elmhurst Hospital and pronounced dead.
Police have since arrested Raul Reyes, a 53-year-old Bushwick resident believed to be the driver of the white Ford van. He will be charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Update 4:57 p.m.: DNAinfo reports that Kamil Gorksi was a former U.S. Marine, carpenter and budding photographer and Queens native who previously attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan. Gorski had recently moved back to his parents home in Ridgewood.
"He lived his life, no worries, no over thinking. We were supposed to do the Polar Bear plunge together," childhood friend Kizzy-Kay Graham told the website. "I am very sad. He was one of a kind: truly free from the confines of society. He wasn't just alive. He lived."
