Two teen boys were arrested the week for allegedly ambushing and beating a Muslim man in the Bronx while shouting "ISIS! ISIS!" at him.
The attack occurred on the evening of January 16th, while 43-year-old Mujibur Rahman was walking his 9-year-old niece home from the Bronx's PS 119. The suspects, who are 14 and 15 years old, shoved Rahman to the ground and kicked him—he sustained a black eye and bruises on his face. He was wearing traditional South Asian garb when he was attacked. "I was dressed like a Muslim," Rahman told the Post last week. "That's why I was attacked. This has never happened before. I hope and wish this doesn't happen in the future to anyone else."
The teens suspected of carrying out the attack were arrested on Friday, after the younger boy's mother overheard them bragging about the assault. She turned in her son, who in turn named the older boy. They've been hit with a slew of charges, including assault as a hate crime, harassment as a hate crime and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
Rahman's niece was physically unharmed but was "emotionally traumatized" by the attack, according to NY State Assemblyman Luis Sepúlveda.
