A New York state trooper was injured early Sunday after being struck during a traffic stop on the Thruway in the town of Mamaroneck, according to a state police press release.

The incident happened shortly after 5 a.m. in the town of Mamaroneck, authorities said. State Police said two troopers had pulled over a 2025 Mercedes sedan on the right shoulder of the highway.

While the troopers were standing near the vehicle, a 2007 Chevy Suburban rear-ended the patrol car, officials said. The impact pushed the patrol car into the Mercedes, which then struck one of the troopers, police said.

The trooper was taken to Westchester Medical Center with minor injuries and was later released, state police said.

Police said the driver of the Suburban, identified as 24-year-old Kevin Ariel Cunache Moyolema of Connecticut, was also taken to Westchester Medical Center to be evaluated for minor body pain. Their attorney information was not immediately available.

The driver of the Mercedes, 52-year-old Siiyer W. Walker of Connecticut, was evaluated by EMS at the scene and declined to be taken to the hospital, according to state police.

The second trooper at the scene was not struck.

The investigation is ongoing, state police said.
