Sal Alosi, the Jets coach who was fined and suspended indefinitely after tripping cornerback Nolan Carroll during December's Jets-Dolphins game, has unsurprisingly handed in his resignation. Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement, "After speaking with Sal, he decided that it is best for him to tender his resignation at this time. We appreciate all of Sal's contributions during his tenure with the team. He played an invaluable role in our success and established what we feel is one of the better strength and conditioning programs in the NFL."
Alosi was fined $25,000 and the Jets were fined $100,000 after the incident, which Alosi admitted to but claimed was a common tactic used to deter special teams players from running out of bounds. The Jets have appealed their fine after video showed the New England Patriots setting up human walls on the sidelines on at least one occasion. However, while setting up a wall of people may be a legal and acceptable move, leaning in to trip a player isn't. Alosi said, "After the events that have transpired, I feel it's best for my family and me to look for a fresh start. I wish nothing but the best for the entire organization."
