The New York State Police are searching for a 16-year-old girl suffering from developmental disabilities who has been missing in the city since Tuesday.
According to police, 16-year-old Karla Galarza, who lives in Putnam County with a foster family, was seen at East 149th Street and Courtlandt Avenue at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, where she left a mental health clinic with a caregiver. She reportedly broke free from that caregiver, ran off and never returned home.
According to PIX 11, Karla was seen at around 6:30 p.m. yesterday evening onboard a Manhattan-bound 2 train. Witnesses say she ended up in Times Square and was overheard asking someone for directions to Toys R Us.
Authorities say Karla has a number of developmental and psychological conditions, including low cognitive function and bipolar disorder. She is described by police as a white/light skinned Hispanic female, 5'8" tall, weighing 140 pounds, with has brown eyes and shoulder length brown hair.
She was last seen wearing eye glasses, faded gray jeans, calf-high black boots, and a pink polar fleece with pink down vest, with her hair in a ponytail.
