A 16-year-old Queens girl who was visiting her aunt in Bed-Stuy was fatally stabbed on a street corner around 3 a.m. Sunday. Kyanna Thomas, who planned to apply to veterinary school, sneaked out of her aunt's house for unknown reasons in the middle of the night. "She left the house some time, they don't know what time, and next thing they heard was that she was hurt," Ken Thomas, Kyanna's grandfather, tells NY1. "And by the time we got to the hospital, she was gone. Somebody stabbed her in the neck."
Thomas called 911 from her cell phone as she lay bleeding at the intersection of MacDougal Street and Saratoga Avenue in Brooklyn. First responders found her in a pool of her own blood, and she was pronounced dead at Interfaith Medical Center. A box cutter was recovered at the scene, and the Daily News reports that investigators are trying to determine her cell phone password to find out who she was in contact with before her death.
No arrests have been made, but her friends tell the News that "a boy Kyanna had spurned recently had sent her a threatening text message." Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
