A 15-year-old boy was shot outside a shoe store in Bushwick this weekend after allegedly cutting a line for the new "Yeezy" Nike sneakers. His suspected assailant, a 14-year-old boy, has since been taken into custody.
The NYPD says the teen was shot in the leg outside the Foot Locker on Knickerbocker Ave near Stanhope Street at around 6 a.m. on Saturday, after getting into a dispute with another male. He was transported to Woodhull Hospital and is expected to survive. The Daily News has identified the victim as 15-year-old Isaiah Martinez, and according to reports, he cut the line while waiting for the $250 Nike Air Foamposite Pro “Yeezy” kicks, which are named after Kanye West and dropped on Saturday.
An unidentified 14-year-old suspected of shooting him was arrested over the weekend. Witnesses say he fired at the victim four times with a handgun. He's been charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Saturday's incident is one of a number of violent episodes in Bushwick this month: on April 6th, 29-year-old Ivan Martinez was shot to death in front of 320 Suydam Street near Knickerbocker Ave at 6 p.m. in the afternoon, and last week Swadh Maged, 52, was fatally shot while working at a bodega on Central Avenue.
Earlier this month, the release of the $250 Nike Air Foamposite 1 (a different sneaker) ">caused a near-riot in SoHo.
