Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for fatally slashing and mutilating a Queens woman in Flushing's Kissena Corridor Park in October. Christopher Sobers, 25, faces charges of second-degree murder and first-degree robbery for the death of Qing Qing Kiemde, 28. The motive remains unclear.

Investigators suspect that Sobers was an acquaintance of Kiemde, whose body was found on October 11th by a homeless man in what the Times describes as "a densely vegetated area off the paved path" in the park, which is a few miles from the home she shared with her father. The Daily News, which has a photo showing how secluded the area looks, reports that Kiemde's "jugular vein had been severed, and she had been stabbed in the chest and stomach at least six times, the wounds so deep that her organs were exposed."

Her father, Weiqun Ma, told the Times his daughter was recently divorced. She had moved to America with her father a decade ago, and worked with him in a bakery. On the night she was killed she had gone to meet with friends, but her relationship to Sobers is still unclear at this time.

Locals say the park had been perceived as safe until Kiemde's murder, but now some are steering clear. "I'll be more careful, maybe I won't go into that trail," one local resident told ABC 7. (The NYC Parks Department did not immediately respond to an inquiry regarding safety improvements to the park.)

"She was such a good person. Always so kind to everyone,” Kiemde's father told the Times in an interview shortly after her body was found. “How could she be killed in this way?”
