Grab your sunglasses and lighter clothes, there are sunny days ahead.
The National Weather Service said that New Yorkers can expect “spring-like” temperatures and sunshine on Monday and Tuesday, with highs in the mid-60s, and consistent lows of around 40 degrees.
“We’re on the heels of spring,” said meteorologist Bryan Ramsey on Sunday. “We will start seeing some of these ups and downs, these roller coaster temperatures as the fronts come in and then we start to warm up and we cool down again, which is pretty typical of springtime patterns.”
During the winter, jet streams — which are fast and narrow currents of air that circle the planet — are a lot lower, bringing in cooler air to New York, Ramsey said. But in the spring, the jet stream moves north and allows warmer air from the south to move in.
Ramsey said that temperatures in the coming days are between 10 to 15 degrees higher than the March average.
Despite the warmer weather, Ramsey said that the city won’t approach Central Park’s record high temperature for this time of year, which is in the mid-70s 70s.
But don’t plan for too much sunshine: The National Weather Service forecasts cloudier skies starting Wednesday and possible rainfall on Saturday.
