L Trains: You know the drill. Until summer 2020, L trains will run every 20 minutes between Brooklyn and Manhattan in both directions on weeknights and weekends (assuming nothing else goes wrong with them, which...). The MTA helpfully reminds us of some of the alternative service options:
- Enhanced subway service on 7, G and M lines on weeknights and weekends, including extended m service.
- Enhanced bus service on 14th Street, including additional weeknight and weekend M14A bus service to Delancey/Essex St station for links to F/J/M trains.
- A weeknight and weekend bus service, called Williamsburg Link, operates on two routes as the B92 and the B91. They connect with subway stations at Bedford Av, Metropolitan Av-Lorimer St, Marcy Av and Hewes St.
- Free subway transfers to make connections easier between Livonia St L and Junius St 3 trains, and from Broadway G to Hewes St J/M or Lorimer St J/M.
M Trains: Through summer 2020, service ends at approximately 10 p.m. between Forest Hills-71 Av and 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr. For Queens, take the R. For Court Sq-23 St, Lexington Av-53 St, and 5 Av/53 St, take the E. Transfer at 34 St-Herald Sq M/R or W 4 St E/M.
Here's another twist: also through summer 2020, from 10 p.m. Friday to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, and from 6 a.m. Saturday to 1:30 a.m. Monday, there is special weekend M service to help accommodate customers during the L Project, running between Brooklyn and up to 96 St in Manhattan. M trains will run between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the F to/from Lexington Av/63 St, and via the Q to/from 96 St.

N trains will not stop at Jay St-MetroTech, Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall. A late-night R shuttle train will serve Jay St-MetroTech, Court St, Whitehall St. For Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall, use the nearby 4 or J line stations instead. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr 4, Canal St J, and/or, 14 St-Union Sq 4.
More N Trains: From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, downtown trains will skip 49 St due to electrical improvements near 49 St. As an alternative, use an uptown N/Q local or R to complete your trip. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St or 57 St-7 Av.
N Trains Can't Start, Won't Start: At all times until December 2019, N trains will skip Astoria Blvd in both directions due to station renewal work to add four new elevators and other accessibility features, as well as demolish and rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance to over-height vehicles traveling below the station structure.
Q Trains From 11:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, downtown trains will skip 49 St due to electrical improvements near 49 St. As an alternative, use an uptown N or Q local train to complete your trip. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St or 57 St-7 Av.
R Trains: From 9:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, and from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and Sept. 8, Manhattan-bound trains will skip 65 St, Northern Blvd, 46 St, Steinway St, and 36 St due to track and switch maintenance near 36 St. As an alternative, use a Jamaica Canter-bound E local or Forest Hills-71 Av R train to complete your trip. Transfer at Queens Plaza, or Roosevelt Av.
More R Trains: From 9:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, and from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and Sept. 8, downtown trains will skip 49 St due to electrical improvements near 49 St. As an alternative, use an uptown N or R local train to complete your trip. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St or 57 St-7 Av.
Even More R Trains: From 10:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, and from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and Sept. 8, trains will be rerouted via the Q (Manhattan Bridge) in both directions between DeKalb Av and Canal St due to track maintenance. Trains will not stop at Jay St-MetroTech, Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall. Use nearby 4 or J line stations to complete your trip. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr 4, Canal St J, and/or, 14 St-Union Sq 4.
S Train: Through 2020, shuttles will run less frequently, and some tracks will be periodically taken out of service due to rehabilitation work. As an alternative, take the 7 between Grand Central-42 St and Times Sq-42 St. Customers at Times Sq-42 St, who usually take the shuttle to the 4/5/6, can take the N/Q/R to 14 St-Union Sq or N/R to Lexington Av-59 St instead. For more information regarding this project refer to this prior press release or visit this webpage on the work.
W Trains: Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, service will end early due to electrical improvements. Take the N or R. As a reminder, W trains do not run on weekends.
