Streets south of Columbus Circle remained closed through the weekend and into Monday as ice continued to fall onto streets. The area was closed on Thursday night, and traffic, involving vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians, has been snarled ever since.
As temperatures have been warming up, more ice has been falling from skyscrapers. Luckily, no one was injured this weekend—WABC 7's Cefaan Kim captured dramatic video of ice falling on 58th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues on Sunday:
A woman on 58th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues said, "I head a loud bang and then all of a sudden I hear ice crashing onto the floor like two feet from where I was standing to my right side. So it was really scary."
Some of the ice has been landing as far away as Central Park.
At least one person was injured by falling ice on Wednesday.
According to WCBS 2, closed streets include "Central Park South between 5th and 8th Avenues, 58th Street between 8th and 7th Avenues and 57th Street between 5th and 7th Avenues."
