Back in September, 23-year-old Jasmine Herron was fatally struck by a bus after getting doored on Atlantic Avenue. The driver in question claimed she had nothing to do with the accident, and quickly excused herself to head to a baby shower. Now Herron's mother, Wendy Clouse, and Senator Eric Adams (of "Stop the Sag" fame) are teaming up to introduce the "Jasmine Herron Law," which would require drivers-ed classes to include lessons on how to deal with bikers, skateboarders, and other users of "alternative transportation."

Clouse says she hopes the law would prevent other mothers from suffering the loss of a child. "I pray that God took her for a reason," she tells the Daily News. "I hope that she can save a life." However, the law wouldn't seem to include harsher punishments for the responsible drivers. Recently, a 27-year-old was fatally struck by a box truck after getting doored in East Harlem. The driver was issued a summons for "unsafe exiting a vehicle." Transportation Alternatives told the Daily News that East Harlem is "in dire need of quality bike infrastructure."
