Forecasters are anticipating a wet, possibly snowy Sunday in NYC and the northeast region.

NBC New York's meteorologists say they're "tracking a winter storm that has the potential to drop as much as eight inches of snow in some parts of the tri-state late Sunday night into Monday, and a wintry mix throughout the region."

New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey may see one to three inches of snow by Monday morning—while Westchester and Rockland Counties, and northern New Jersey, may seen three to five inches (even up to eight inches, at the northernmost points)—which could then turn into rain.

Also: "No matter how much precipitation is expected, one thing is certain: Major travel headaches should be anticipated all along the I-95 corridor starting in the early evening on Sunday." So maybe take the train?

There might even be snow on Monday! WCBS 2 meteorologist Matt DeLucia writes, "Then on Monday, as the coastal low develops while pulling away, colder air wraps back in, changing the rain back to snow. The question is how quickly this occurs and how much precip remains once it happens. A very EARLY call would be 1-3″ in and around the city by Monday night. We’ll be updating as new data comes in, so stay tuned!"

Before hitting the Northeast, the storm is expected to pound the Northern Plains early Sunday and continue east through the Great Lakes. It comes after an unusual bomb cyclone hit the West Coast and Midwest earlier this week.
