There will be no voting on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in New York. Instead, the powers that be have decided that—for pretty obvious reasons—the primaries scheduled for that day will be held on Thursday, September 13.
This is the second time that the state has moved primaries so they wouldn't coincide 9/11. They did the same thing in 2007. As Sheldon Silver said last week when the issue was first being discussed in Albany, "Sept. 11 is a day that people should reflect on what happened." He then added that, "people should focus on that, rather than being bombarded with telephone calls" telling them to go out and vote.
Having actually gotten up early to vote in a, later discarded, primary in the city on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 (it was this Gothamist writer's first election!) we can totally get behind this move. Though it is kinda strange not to vote on a Tuesday.
