Looks like there might be a little more room in that mayoral race clown car: Manhattan borough president Scott Stringer is not expected to run next year.
Stringer was expected to do battle with a whole bunch of Democrats for the party nomination, including Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and Mayor of Hurricane Sandy City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. Quinn's been pegged as the frontrunner, raising the most campaign funds and leading in the polls. Stringer, on the other hand, has lagged in the polls of late, scoring only 6 percent of Democrats' support in an NY1-Marist Poll last month. People close to Stringer have reportedly said he's eyeing John Liu's comptroller seat instead.
If Stringer does drop out, he'll probably give Quinn an even bigger boost, since he's a fellow Manhattanite and was also expected to get a lot of support from Jewish New Yorkers. Either way, the primary will be a messy one, but hey, at least we've got those music videos from Jimmy McMillan to look forward to, right?
