If we've learned anything from the Great Recession, it's that you don't need a bunch of rules and annoying paperwork getting in the way of noble business people when they're just trying to make the economy better for everyone. Future President Rick Santorum gets this, and in an edifying Q&A with the Times, he explains how we have capitalism to thank for all the righteous, ethical decisions that business leaders have made over the years. Everybody take a knee and enlighten yourself with the wisdom of Santorum:
Capitalism actually encourages morality because capitalism can’t function well if people can’t trust each other and people aren’t honest, if a deal isn’t a deal. That’s not to say that people don’t do bad things and commit fraud. But the more moral the people are in their business dealings, the less paperwork you need, the more handshakes you can have, the more the wheels of capitalism work better because there’s trust in the marketplace. Business ethics is not a joke. And, in fact, I think most businesses that I’ve dealt with encourage exactly that type of behavior.
Indeed, a high school senior thumping a dog-eared copy of Atlas Shrugged could not have said it more eloquently! We cannot wait until this man is president and we can just let our moral nation finally fly free on a handshake-based economy, its well-oiled, ethical wheels greased by Santorum himself.
