Russell Crowe may be fierce in a Coliseum, but over the weekend when he was kayaking in Huntington Bay, in the Long Island Sound, he needed an assist from the U.S. Coast Guard. The Oscar-winning actor and a friend were recused by a USCG boat; Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Swieciki said, "He just needed a little bit of a lift. He got a little bit lost...When the sun went down, he didn't know where he was."

Swieciki went on to say, "It wasn't really a rescue, really, more of just giving someone a lift." Although eventually he made sure everyone knew he wasn't actually lost, Crowe was thankful:

Kayak;Cold Spring/Huntington Harbour, thanks to Seth and the boys from the US Coast Guard for guiding the way...4 hrs 30 mins, 7m(11.2km)

Crowe, 48, has been filming Noah, about you-know-who, in Upper Brookville for director Darren Aronofky (there's a huge ark). Newsday reported on his latest adventure, noting, "He and a friend launched kayaks from Cold Spring Harbor Saturday afternoon and were at Lloyd Neck when they saw the Coast Guard boat about 10 p.m." Swieciki, who thought Crowe seemed like an experienced kayaker, said, "He shouted at us from the beach, and he paddled up to us. We took him to Huntington."

not lost,we knew where exactly where we were, paddling around from csh into wind, we ran out of day. Grand adventure eh @chris_feather ?

Anyway, Crowe is ready to unwind—yesterday he Tweeted, "so what's going on on Long Island tonight? How is Labor day being celebrated?"
