A 1-month-old girl in Queens did not die from a dog mauling, the city’s medical examiner’s office said Wednesday.

While the infant had injuries from a dog bite, the office said those wounds occurred after she had already died. The cause and manner of her death remained under investigation and will require further testing, according to the office.

The clarification comes a day after officers responded to a 911 call just before 6:40 a.m. Tuesday at NYCHA’s Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City, according to authorities. Officials said the baby’s mother told police she had been sleeping next to her daughter and awoke to find their 6-week-old German shepherd and pit bull mix biting the infant’s face.

Emergency responders pronounced the baby dead at the scene. The dog has since been removed from the home, officials said.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
