Prince Andrew is stonewalling federal prosecutors in their effort to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking operation, according to U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman, whose office was prosecuting Epstein until his suicide last summer.
Berman spoke at a press conference outside Epstein’s Upper East Side mansion Monday morning.
“The Southern District of New York and the FBI have contacted Prince Andrew’s attorneys and requested to interview Prince Andrew, and to date Prince Andrew has provided zero cooperation,” he said.
While he usually wouldn’t comment on whether people were cooperating with ongoing investigations, Berman said Prince Andrew’s case was different.
“He publicly offered...to cooperate with law enforcement investigating the crimes committed by Jeffery Epstein. So I think, in that context, it’s fair for people to know if Prince Andrew has followed through.”
In a statement issued in early December, Prince Andrew said, “Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required.”
Berman declined to give further details about the investigation or offer a timeline when further charges could be expected.
“Jeffrey Epstein couldn’t have done what he did without the assistance of others and I can assure you that our investigation is moving forward,” he said.

COURTESY OF VIRGINIA GIUFFRE
Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, announced he was stepping back from royal duties last fall, amid mounting scrutiny over his relationship with Epstein. One of Epstein’s alleged victims, Virgina Giuffre, has said Epstein forced her to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was a minor, and in 2001 appeared in a photograph with the Prince showing his arm around her waist. Prince Andrew has said he has no recollection of meeting Giuffre.
Epstein hanged himself last summer while in federal custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.
Berman’s comments came at an unrelated press conference organized by Safe Horizon where advocates called for a year-long extension to a so-called ‘look-back window’ that allows victims of childhood sex abuse to file lawsuits against their abusers, regardless of the statute of limiations. The lookback window first opened last August when the New York Child Victims Act went into effect. Since then 1,420 lawsuits by people who say there sexually abused as children have been filed, according to a spokesman for the Office of Court Administration, including one filed by an alleged survivor of abuse by Jeffrey Epstein.
