A man was killed by a hit-and-run driver in East Harlem who flipped his car and fled on foot early Saturday, police said.

Around 12:55 a.m. Saturday, Manuel Jose Enealada-Villa, 52 was walking across the intersection of East 110th Street and Third Avenue when he was struck by someone driving a 2020 white Honda Accord heading north on Third Avenue, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He lived two blocks away.

The driver lost control of the car a few blocks away at East 115th Street and Third Avenue, flipping the Honda on its side. The driver then abandoned the car and fled on foot, police said.

There was no description of the driver immediately available. NYPD said they are still investigating and no arrests have been made.

This is at least the 224th traffic fatality this year, an increase of 11.4% over this point in 2019 so far. There have been 95 pedestrian deaths from cars this year, police said.

On Friday, Frederick Thomas, 49, was killed while biking on First Avenue near East 118th in East Harlem, police said, following a crash that appeared to involve a box truck driver and an illegally parked car.

Police maintain that Thomas, who lived on Lenox Avenue in East Harlem, was biking against traffic on First Avenue when he was struck by a man driving a box truck northbound on the avenue.

That account has been disputed by a manager for the trucking company, Paul Rodriguez, who told Gothamist Friday that "The truck didn't hit the cyclist."

"The cyclist was, from what I gather, coming up 1st Avenue. There was an illegally parked car and the truck, and somehow he got wedged in there. We really don't know how it happened," Rodriguez said.

Police said the investigation was ongoing but no criminality was suspected.

Thomas's death was the 25th cyclist fatality of 2020.
