Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch on Tuesday identified two people police believe stabbed an off-duty NYPD officer during an apparent robbery in the Bronx last week.

Tisch said D’Angelo Caraballo, 25, and Sneider Mejia, 24, are wanted on charges of attempted murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon for the stabbing of Detective Jose Mercedes last Friday. She disclosed their identities at an unrelated press conference.

The NYPD previously released photos that appeared to show two people leaving the scene of the robbery on a motorized bike near the corner of Rochambeau Avenue and East 206th Street on Friday.

Police previously said the two people being sought slashed and stabbed Mercedes multiple times before stealing a chain from around his neck. Mercedes was rushed to Jacobi Hospital and treated for his injuries, police said. Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Tisch visited him as he recovered from his wounds Friday.

Tisch on Tuesday encouraged anyone who may know where Caraballo and Mejia are to alert the NYPD by calling the department’s tipline.
