A mother accused of abandoning her baby daughter in a tote bag on a Bronx street on Sunday has been arrested on charges of first-degree reckless endangerment and endangering a child's welfare, according to the NYPD.

Delfina Galvez, 26, turned herself into police shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday, a spokesperson for the department said. The spokesperson did not have any details on a possible motive for the incident, but police said Galvez lived on the same street as where the baby was found, and just a few minutes' walk away.

The baby was a relative newborn, the NYPD said. Attorney information for the defendant was not immediately available on Tuesday morning.

Police had earlier released surveillance footage of a person they said left a baby girl in front of a home on Rev. James A. Polite Avenue near East 167th Street just after 6 a.m. on Sunday. The baby was taken to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition, according to the NYPD.

Police on Tuesday also said they were investigating a deadly shooting that took place around 10:30 p.m. on Monday about a block away from where the baby was allegedly abandoned.

Daquan Andrews, 28, was shot and killed inside a deli on Home Street and Prospect Avenue, just around the corner from his home, the NYPD said. Police said no arrests were made and they did not have a description of a suspect.

The killing came several hours after six people were shot and injured outside a convenience store in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx, according to police. The NYPD has not announced any arrests in that incident, but said all six victims, including a 12-year-old girl and her mother, were in stable condition as of Tuesday morning.
