A 48-year-old Queens man has been charged with attempted murder after a “chaotic” night of violence at a Southeast Queens home that ended with an NYPD officer shooting and injuring a woman.
Rashaun Donovan, who was arrested Saturday, faces two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of assault and one count of criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.
Donovan was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Queens Criminal Court, but his attorney information was not immediately available.
The arrest stemmed from a reported home invasion and stabbings on 149th Street Friday night. When police officers arrived at the scene around 9:40 p.m., a man called down to them from a second-floor window to say his uncle had stabbed him and was downstairs, according to NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera, who gave a press briefing that night.
After a woman threw keys from a third-floor window, officers went inside and found two men and a woman struggling in a small third-floor bedroom.
Officers identified themselves and ordered the three to raise their hands, Rivera said.
“The female still did not comply and moved in the direction of the officers with a knife in her hand,” Rivera told reporters. “She was within several feet of the officers when an officer discharged his firearm, striking her. She fell to the ground. An officer deployed his Taser, and another officer recovered the knife.”
The woman, who has not been identified, was in stable condition, police said. She and three men in the home all had stab wounds. Rivera said police did not believe she was responsible for the home invasion or the initial stabbing.
Police said Tuesday that they had no new details about what transpired that night and why it led to Donovan’s arrest. Police have not stated Donovan’s relationship to others in the house.
The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is investigating the shooting.
