Police have arrested a 54-year-old man who they say roughed up and robbed a 9-year-old in the Bronx last week. Michael Johnson, who the Post says has a long rap sheet filled with drug related offenses, has been charged with second-degree robbery—a robbery for which Johnson only netted a mere $19.
The incident happened around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday August 8th, when Johnson allegedly followed Jacky Saunders into his apartment building in the Fordham section of the Bronx. Jacky had been given a $20 bill by his aunt to go buy a $1 bar of soap at the corner bodega when he was accosted. “I was sending Jacky to the store when we heard him screaming from all the way downstairs,” said his aunt, Faye Singleton. Johnson attacked him in the vestibule of his building, pushing him against a wall and removing his change.
Jacky's grandmother was devastated over the incident: “He doesn’t want to go outside to play. He won’t go to the pool or park,” said Anora Quinn. “My grandson has been going to the store since he was a little baby. I hope the police get [the mugger] before the streets do, because he lives around here and everyone knows about it.”
