A 51-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a van driver as she crossed 5th Avenue in the Flatiron District this morning.

According to police, the woman was crossing 5th Avenue around 8:48 a.m. when she was struck by the driver, who was turning left from 21st Street.

She was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. An NYPD spokesperson said it's unclear whether she was in the crosswalk at the time of the crash.

The driver stayed on the scene, and has not been charged. An investigation is ongoing.
