It looks like Mayor Bloomberg didn't consult his criminal-justice coordinator before saying that a "woman could walk in virtually every neighborhood in this city during the day and not look over her shoulder." Or maybe "virtually every neighborhood" didn't include Morrisania in the Bronx. Former Gov. Pataki's daughter Emily Pataki, Bloomberg's criminal-justice coordinator, was attacked while exiting the Freeman Street subway station yesterday morning on her way to a meeting at a nearby school.
Pataki had reportedly taken out her BlackBerry to look up directions to a school when a would-be thief attempted to grab it from her. She wrestled it from his grip and ran to the exit, with the crook pursuing her until she left the station. She was able to find the school and called police once she got there; she says she is "grateful to the NYPD and is fine." See? Nothing to worry about, ladies, as long as you figure out where you're going before you leave the house.
