Police in East Hampton are searching for a brazen panty thief who allegedly stole a bag full of women's undergarments from a private home and ran off into the forest upon being caught, like a woodland sprite with a thing for thongs.
Police say the man was found in the basement of a home at 203 Stephen Hands Path while trying to steal a shopping bag filled with female underthings at around 10 a.m. Friday. He was stopped by acquaintance of the homeowner, and, after a brief struggle, fled on foot to a nearby wooded area with the bag. It is unclear exactly what the suspect plans to do with the shopping bag—though we do hear there's a market for reselling used underwear these days. Or perhaps he was just engaging in the long, storied panty-stealing tradition that dates back to at least 1949.
In any event, the suspect is still on the loose. He is described as a Hispanic male, in his late teens or early 20s, said to be between 4'10" and 5'2" with a thin build. He has black straight hair, brown eyes, is clean-shaven, and was seen wearing a gray sweatshirt. He had also been wearing a light brown baseball hat. Anyone with information is asked to contact the East Hampton Town Police Department’s Detectives Division at 631-537-6989 or to email [email protected].
