An off-duty NYPD officer was stabbed in the Bronx on Friday, police said.

The attack happened around 2 p.m. near Rochambeau Avenue and East 206th Street, according to the NYPD.

The detective was stabbed several times, and preliminary information indicates that the assault happened during an attempted robbery, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on X.

Mamdani and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch canceled a scheduled afternoon press conference on quarterly crime statistics to visit the officer at Jacobi Hospital, he said.

"He is thankfully in stable condition, and I am hoping for his quick and complete recovery," the mayor wrote.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police did not say if the assailant knew the victim or identify a possible motive.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
