[Update Below] If the first Presidential debate cast the Obama campaign into a bottomless chasm of unrelenting darkness, his desperate advisers can at least find solace in one bright yellow beacon of light: Big Bird. Mitt Romney's straight-up threat on the lives of Big Bird and his Sesame Street pals on PBS was the stuff a million tweets were made of. And if you thought the Obama campaign was going to let it lie...you don't know how big ticket politics works. A week after the bloodbath, check out this jaw-dropping, made-for-blogs new commercial the campaign just released. And no, this is not an SNL spoof. This is all too real:
So, is this the "Daisy Girl" of the 2012 election? Or just another ad pandering to the blogging base?
Update: In a statement Sesame Workshop had this to say about the Obama campaign's new ad:
Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down.
