Last Wednesday, a woman was burned after having an unknown substance thrown on her face. Now police have released a sketch of the suspect and are asking the public for help in finding him.
According to the NYPD, the incident occurred at 5:20 p.m. in front of 33-02 Skillman Avenue: "A 59-year-old female was entering her car when an unknown male called to her from behind. When the victim turned around, the suspect splashed an unknown substance in the victim's face."
The Post reported that the suspect said, "Can I ask you a question?" and when she turned around, "[She] saw the man standing on the sidewalk with a coffee cup in his hand before he threw the substance in her face, sources said. She immediately hopped into her car in an attempt to get away, but she didn’t get far, sources said. The Queens woman drove about 200 feet before she stopped. A passerby heard her screaming inside the vehicle and dialed 911."
The victim, identified as Alexandra Dyer, was treated for third-degree burns at Cornell Hospital. EMS responded and transported the victim to Cornell Hospital with third degree burns to her face where she was treated and released.
Dyer is a priest and works at non-profit Healing Arts Initiative. Her boyfriend told WABC 7 last week, "She cannot open the mouth. The tongue is purple," adding that she was disfigured.
The suspect is described as being about 30 years old and 5'8" with black hair, last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts and white sneakers.
Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
