An off-duty NYPD sergeant was arrested this week after allegedly shooting the mother of his child in the neck in their Yonkers apartment.

The incident occurred just before midnight on Wednesday. Jose Guerrero, a 49-year-old sergeant with the 45th Precinct, allegedly shot the 39-year-old woman while involved in a domestic argument in their apartment on Warburton Avenue. The victim was transported to St. John's Hospital and treated for a wound to her neck.

The victim was released, and Guerrero, who is apparently also a local karate teacher, was arrested and charged with second degree assault and first degree reckless endangerment. The NYPD says he's been suspended without pay.

This incident occurred just two days before a man in the Bronx shot his wife on Christmas morning, after she reportedly asked for a divorce. And in New Jersey, a man murdered his wife and daughter before killing himself, also on Christmas Day.
