Police are searching for someone they say fatally stabbed a man in Queens early Saturday morning.
Officers responding to a call at the intersection of Jamaica Avenue and 173rd Street around 1 a.m. found 29-year-old Sulimon Ferrier, who had multiple stab wounds to his chest, police said. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.
Police said the suspect has not been apprehended and the investigation is still ongoing.
Prior to Saturday’s killing, there had been two murders so far this year in the 103rd Precinct, which covers Jamaica, according to the most recent NYPD crime statistics. That’s down 50% compared to the same period last year, when there were four, according to NYPD data.
Citywide, homicides and shootings have continued to plummet to historic lows, according to NYPD data. Prior to Ferrier’s killing, there were 198 murders in the city, a more than 20% decrease compared to the same time period last year.
