The NYPD was searching on Wednesday for the unidentified man it says slashed an MTA conductor across the face in the Bronx a day before.
Police said a 911 call about an assault on the southbound platform at the Whitlock Avenue station came in at 12:23 p.m. Tuesday. The NYPD said a man slashed the 36-year-old conductor across her face with an unknown sharp object while the train was in the station.
Police said the unidentified man fled the scene, and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and green pants.
The MTA worker was transported to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition. According to the Transport Workers Union Local 100, she had only been on the job for 15 months at the time of the assault.
New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said the MTA is committed to working with the NYPD to apprehend anyone who assaults a transit worker.
“I take this personally. One employee getting assaulted is one too many,” he said. “Every single subway car has a camera. We have cameras in all of our stations. So if you want to attack one of our employees, we will ensure that we give every piece of information necessary to make sure that you're caught for doing it.”
Transport Workers Union Local 100 President John V. Chiarello said the transit system is a dangerous environment for members.
“The public takes out their anger or frustration with the system on us,” he said in a statement. “That is why we have worked so hard for higher levels of security in the system and for procedures to allow our members who are subject to assault to take the time they need to recover.
