The NYPD is searching for a man they say raped a 13-year-old girl inside Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx earlier this week.

The girl was riding a northbound Bx9 bus around 10 p.m. Tuesday, when a man approached her, police said. After the two got off the bus near Broadway and West 261st Street, the man grabbed the girl and took her into a wooded area of the park, where the NYPD says he sexually assaulted her.

The man ran from the scene and emergency service workers took the girl to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

Surveillance images from the bus show the man wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with a horseshoe insignia and a chinstrap beard with no moustache.

Police are asking anyone with information on the assault to call the NYPD’s Sex Crimes Hotline at (212) 267-7273 or (646) 610-7272, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. Spanish speakers can call 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

Tips can also be submitted at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or to @NYPDTips on X.
