Police said Wednesday they were looking for a man who struck and critically injured a 76-year-old woman while driving a box truck in Brooklyn last week.

According to NYPD officials, the woman was walking across the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Avenue U in Sheepshead Bay around 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 9 when the driver hit her. Police said the man was driving a white box truck and wearing an orange reflective construction shirt.

The woman sustained injuries to her face, neck, back and legs and was taken to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn in critical condition, officials said. The driver fled southbound on Ocean Avenue, according to the NYPD.

Police are asking anyone with information about the collision to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). People can also submit tips on the Crime Stoppers website.

More than 125 pedestrians have been involved in traffic collisions this year in the 61st Precinct, which includes Sheepshead Bay, according to NYPD data through Sept. 14. That was down from 150 by the same point last year. Five people have died in traffic crashes in the precinct so far this year, down from seven at this time last year, the data shows.

This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
