Police are looking for a suspect who allegedly attacked a straphanger with a hammer and threw them onto the subway tracks while making anti-gay statements last month.
The incident happened just after 1 a.m. on November 22nd at the Tremont Avenue station. The 21-year-old victim was waiting for a D train when police say he got involved in a verbal dispute with another man, who is believed to be in his 30s. Cops say the suspect made anti-gay statements and attempted to strike the victim with a hammer, but missed. He then threw the victim onto the train tracks, and fled the location.
The suspect allegedly yelled “Fu**ing fa**ot!” during the attack, according to reports at the time.
Police add that good Samaritans on the platform alerted the motorman to stop the arriving train, and assisted the victim back onto the platform.
The victim was taken to St. Barnabus hospital in stable condition. The Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
