Police said the two people involved in stabbing an off-duty NYPD officer Friday tore a chain from his neck, though it’s unclear if they knew the victim was a police officer.
The NYPD says the officer, 33, was approached by the suspects on a motorized bike at around 2 p.m. Friday, near the corner of Rochambeau Avenue and East 206th street in the Bronx.
The suspects stabbed and slashed him multiple times before forcibly removing a chain around his neck, police officials said. The victim was not wearing anything at the time that would have identified him as a police officer according to NYPD officials.
The officer was taken to Jacobi Hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch visited him there Friday afternoon.
No arrests have been made and police are asking anyone with information to call 1-800-577-TIPS, submit tips on the department’s Crime Stoppers website or on X at @NYPDTips.
