After the horrible response to the late December 2010 blizzard (aka BLIZZAGEDDON)—and after getting rid of the deputy mayor who was in charge of operations—the city is now trying to start afresh by seeking private plows for the next storm. The Daily News reports, "The private plows will be used to haul snow from dead end streets and other side roads when 6 inches or more of snow is forecast. They will be paid a 'standby' fee even if their services are ultimately not needed due to lighter snowfall."

You may remember that during the blizzard, questions were raised about whether the Sanitation Department deliberately slowed down plowing, leaving many neighborhoods snowed in. While it seems that response just, well, sucked, Mayor Bloomberg claimed the whole experience was "character building."

Call Mr. Plow, that's my name, that name again is Mr. Plow!
