New York City is set to get slammed by rain through this weekend.
A low- and slow-moving pressure system is expected to roll through the area starting Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service. It’s looking like Friday evening into Saturday morning will bear the brunt of the storm, with at least an inch forecast to fall over that period.
“ If anyone has outdoor plans Friday and Saturday, you may have to change the plans,” National Weather Service meteorologist Bryan Ramsey said. “It's just, you know, a good soaker.”
Ramsey said that though there could be some periods of heavier rainfall, there is not a major flood risk with this system. The most that’s predicted is some ponding in poor drainage areas.
Still, the storm is bringing an abundance of moisture up from the south, and it will be around for a while. Cooler air will sticking around as well, according to Ramsey.
“High pressure equals happy weather and low pressure equals lousy weather,” he said. “Overall, when you have the low-pressure system, usually you're getting a lot more disturbed weather with it.”
The storm is expected to linger until about Monday and will break off after some scattered showers early next week.
