There's no rest for the weary, as they say, and there's no immediate hope for the beleaguered 7 train rider. Service on that cruel purple beast is suspended between Queens and Manhattan this weekend, and it looks like that'll be the case for, oh, the next 8 weeks. You know. Again.

This weekend's repairs halt the line between Times Square-42nd Street and Queensboro Plaza, with service ending at 2 a.m. Saturday and resuming at 4:30 a.m. on Monday. Flushing-Main Street-bound 7 trains will also be running express from Queensboro Plaza to 74 St-Broadway, according to the MTA

This service interruption will be in place almost every weekend until February 27th, whereupon no trains will run between Times Square-42nd Street and 74 Street-Broadway for two weekends. And for the following three weekends, there will be no trains between Times Square-42nd St and Hunters Point Avenue.

According to the MTA, these fun changes are once again thanks to the installation of the Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signal system, along with elevated track replacement, infrastructure work and fortification and repairs on the Steinway Tubes. This is a bad scene for survivors of the 7 train's last epic shutdown, in which service between Manhattan and Queens was halted intermittently over 22 weekends last year. And in 2013, the 7 was suspended between Manhattan and Queens for 13 weekends, and in 2012 it was suspended for five weeks, because subway work is a flat circle.
