An NJ Transit bus driver fatally struck a 56-year-old man in Fort Lee early Wednesday morning, according to police.
The man was crossing Bruce Reynolds Boulevard near Lemoine Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday when a bus hit him as it was turning left, police said. The bus was headed for the Port Authority Terminal in Midtown Manhattan, according to NJ Transit.
The pedestrian, who has not been publicly identified by police, was taken to the Englewood Health hospital in serious condition and eventually pronounced dead.
Police said the bus driver was a 60 year-old man and transit officials said he was not injured in the incident.
Police and transit officials gave differing accounts of how many people were on the bus at the time of the crash, but no other injuries were reported.
Fort Lee police and county law enforcement are investigating the incident.
